The eighth staging of the Everyone’s A Winner/Best Dressed Chicken 5K and 10K road race will take place on Sunday, June 17 at 6:00 am inside Hope Gardens with the organisers, Running Events Jamaica, adding a 1K for Under-10 this year, in a move aimed at making it more of a family event.

It is scheduled to take place on Father’s Day under the theme, “Keep Fit With Dad”, with various categories to ensure full participation from each family member. There will be also be a stroller event geared at facilitating parents with babies.

According to director of Running Events Jamaica, Alfred ‘Frano’ Francis, the number of entrants in this year’s event has doubled, which he attributes to the Ministry of Health’s initiative, Jamaica Moves.

Francis said that this year, the 10K runners will be given a 15-minute headstart on the 5K runners, to better able to facilitate the awarding of prizes and medals after the completion of the race.

The two trophies for the champion club teams will be named after longstanding road racer, Roy Thomas, who at 91 years old, still participates in the 10K events. According to Francis, Thomas is an inspirational source for the athletes.

Lorraine Kemble, brand manager of Best Dressed Chicken, said the company will be offering a special brunch in Hope Gardens on race day in an effort to encourage family bonding.

She said Dynamic Lifestyle will also be partnering with Best Dressed Chicken to host two camps to prepare participants for the race.
