Profile of The Jamaica Broilers Group “Fair Play” Awards
“The Jamaica Broilers Fair Play Awards provide incentives for local journalists to improve their investigative and reporting skills … to intensify their commitment to their profession of journalism … and, in achieving excellence, to become a possible last line of defence between justice and exploitation, honesty and double talk, myopia and the visionary world view!” - Alma Mock Yen, Former Chief Judge
The main purpose of the Jamaica Broilers Group “Fair Play” Awards is to encourage journalists to be thorough and balanced in investigating and reporting on issues of national importance.
Jamaica Broilers initiated the annual Awards – as well as the biennial Excellence in Media Lecture series – in recognition of the powerful and influential role that the media plays in forging public opinion and responses … and to reward those who best exemplify the fairness and balance with which they must carry out that important responsibility.
Only one award was offered initially – this for work done in 2000/2001. However, both the number and value of the awards have since been increased over the years.
This year, we have separated the electronic media category in two - radio and television. As a result the three main categories for the 2011-2012 Awards are: print, television and radio.
